[ARCHIVED] Water Trails Development

Dubuque County Conservation and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources are working toward creating three water trails in Dubuque County. Segments of the North Fork of the Maquoketa, Little Maquoketa, and Lytle Creek are all included in the planning efforts.

A water trail is a recreational route built to provide access points utilized for canoers and kayakers to plan trips of varying lengths and difficulty. They may provide access to campgrounds, shelters, restrooms, parks, and more.

The Dubuque County water trail development project is the second-largest water trail development in the entire state of Iowa and the first project targeting more than one stream! Stay tuned as the development of these water trails continues!
