CDC Expands COVID Booster Eligibility

The CDC has expanded eligibility for an additional COVID vaccine booster dose for certain individuals who may be at higher risk of severe outcomes from COVID-19.
 
 People over the age of 50 can now get an additional booster 4 months after their prior dose to increase their protection. This is especially important for those 65 and older and those 50 and older with underlying medical conditions, such as cancer, kidney, liver, and lung diseases,  dementia, diabetes, heart or brain health conditions, overweight and obesity, physical inactivity, etc.

Quarantine & Isolation Calculator

The CDC has launched a new tool to help determine how long you need to isolate, quarantine, or take other steps to prevent spreading COVID-19.

REMEMBER:

  • Quarantine: If you were exposed
     Quarantine and stay away from others when you have been in close contact with someone who has COVID-19.

  • Isolate:  If you are sick or test positive
     Isolate when you are sick or when you have COVID-19, even if you don’t have symptoms.

HOSPITALIZATIONS

  • 4 County Hospitalizations:  Today, UnityPoint Health – Finley Hospital has 1 inpatient hospitalized with COVID and MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center has 3 inpatients with COVID-19 and for a total of 4 persons hospitalized with COVID in Dubuque County.

DEATHS   

  • No new death reported since Mar. 23.
  • Total deaths related to COVID to date = 294


COMMUNITY TRANSMISSION RATE

  • Dubuque County COVID-19 Community Level = LOW

CDC Guidance for Low Community Level:

  • Stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines and boosters
  • Maintain improved ventilation throughout indoor spaces when possible
  • Follow CDC recommendations for isolation and quarantine, including getting tested if you are exposed to COVID-19 or have symptoms of COVID-19
  • If you are immunocompromised or high risk for severe disease:
     - Have a plan for rapid testing if needed (e.g., having home tests or access to testing)
     - Talk to your healthcare provider about whether you are a candidate for treatments like oral antivirals, PrEP, and monoclonal antibodies
