You may have heard the term "herd immunity" used recently when talking about the COVID-19 vaccine. Public Health Specialist Mary Rose Corrigan explains what herd immunity is, and how getting vaccinated gets us to herd immunity and ends this pandemic in yesterday's update on behalf of the Dubuque County Public Health Incident Management Team.

General Information:

• All COVID-19 vaccinations are free, safe, and effective.  For vaccine information, visit www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/index.html
• Per the Iowa Department of Public Health, all Iowans age 16 and above are eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. Those age 16-17 can receive only the Pfizer vaccine. Iowans age 18 and older can have the Pfizer, Moderna, or Johnson & Johnson vaccines.
• You are NOT eligible for a vaccine if you:
  • Have received another vaccination of any kind in the last two weeks.
  • Have been treated with convalescent plasma or monoclonal antibodies for COVID-19 in the past 90 days.
  • Have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in the past two weeks or have not completed the required isolation period..
