IDPH Planning for COVID-19 Vaccine Response Support

Governor Reynolds announced today the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) is seeking proposals from vendors to assist with the completion of one or more of the following statewide projects:

1. Create or leverage an existing centralized vaccine call center to provide information about COVID-19 vaccine availability, screen callers for prioritization eligibility and provide contact information for vaccine providers in the caller’s community. 
2. Create or leverage an existing centralized vaccine call center to provide information about COVID-19 vaccine availability, screen callers for prioritization eligibility and assist with a warm hand off to a vaccine provider in the caller’s community so the caller can receive more information about vaccine availability and appointment scheduling.
3. Create or leverage an existing centralized vaccine call center to provide information about COVID-19 vaccine availability, screen callers for prioritization eligibility, provide contact information for vaccine providers in the caller’s community as requested and assist callers with vaccine registration and appointment scheduling.
4. Develop and deploy an online vaccine registration system that will allow IDPH to collect information from Iowans wanting to register for a vaccination appointment and allow registered Iowans to schedule vaccination appointments with Iowa’s enrolled vaccine providers upon notification of eligibility to schedule a vaccination appointment.

Phase 1b: Balancing Vaccine Priorities

Vaccinations are under way in Dubuque County for residents eligible in Phase 1b Tier 1 but vaccine allocations to the state and county are limited.  As supplies are limited, vaccination appointments will also be limited.  As the table below indicates, it is estimated that nearly 21,000 county residents are eligible for vaccination in this phase. Residents age 65 and over are being contacted by their healthcare providers as supplies allow.  Tier 1 subgroups should receive information from their employer as supplies allow.

DEATHS
Dubuque County:

• 4 new deaths.
• Total deaths related to COVID to date = 181 
• Underlying Cause Deaths = 171, Contributing Factor Deaths = 10

Iowa:

• 58 new deaths.
• Total deaths related to COVID to date = 5,033
• Underlying Cause Deaths = 4,555, Contributing Factor Deaths = 478

HOSPITALIZATIONS

• Dubuque County Residents Hospitalized = 11 as of Feb. 2. (3 more than Jan. 30)
• Iowans Currently Hospitalized = 360 (22 less than yesterday.) 

TESTING
Dubuque County:

• 91 more individuals tested.
• Total individuals tested to date = 51,771

Iowa:

• 4,052 more individuals tested.
• Total individuals tested to date = 1,485,709

PERCENT POSITIVE CASES
Dubuque County:

• Past 14-day average = 9.3%
• Past 7-day average = 5.9%

Iowa:

• Past 14-day average = 9.3%
• Past 7-day average = 7.4%

RECOVERIES 
Dubuque County:

• New recoveries = 63 
• Total number of recoveries = 10,821

Iowa:

• New recoveries = 1,712 
• Total number of recoveries = 289,983

LONG-TERM CARE FACILITY OUTBREAKS
Dubuque County:
 1 long-term care facility outbreak (same as yesterday):

• Stonehill Care Center, Dubuque (27 current positive cases, 8 in the last 14 days, and 1 recoveries)

Iowa:
47 long-term care facility outbreaks (1 less than yesterday) with 1,365 current positive cases (residents and staff), 841 recoveries (residents and staff), and 2,064 resident deaths from all Iowa LTC facilities to date.
