30 New Cases in Dubuque County, 439 New Cases and Three Additional Deaths in Iowa
Positive Cases
Between 2 p.m. yesterday and 2 p.m. today, the IDPH reported 30 new positive cases of COVID-19 in Dubuque County, increasing the county total to 536. For the state, 439 additional cases were reported in that same time frame giving Iowa a total of 29,410 positive cases.
The increase in new cases in Dubuque County is likely due to several factors:
- Although the local Test Iowa site has added testing opportunities, our local health care providers are also testing more patients based on exposure and testing prior to surgeries, procedures and hospital admissions, and risk factors. The number of tests administered in the county has increased, but the positive test rate is remaining stable, between between five and six percent.
- Also, and not unexpectedly, we are several weeks past the governor’s lifting of restrictions and, as more people are out in the community visiting retail establishments and attending events/activities with no or fewer restrictions, greater transmission and community spread is possible.
Deaths
No additional deaths were reported in Dubuque County so the county total remains at 22. Three additional deaths were reported statewide, increasing the state death total to 717.
Testing
As of 2 p.m. today, the IDPH website reported that 10,612 Dubuque County residents have been tested, up 378 from yesterday, with a positive test rate of five percent. 309,633 Iowans have been tested, an increase of 5,036 since yesterday, for a positive test rate of 9.5 percent. One in nine Dubuque County residents have been tested and one in 10 Iowa residents have been tested.
Hospitalizations & Recoveries
As of today, 149 Iowans were hospitalized due to COVID-19, 16 more than yesterday. The number of Dubuque County residents hospitalized is two, the same as yesterday. Statewide, 23,533 Iowans have recovered (up 400 from yesterday), including 379 Dubuque County residents (seven more than yesterday).
Long-Term Care Facility Outbreaks
According to the IDPH, as of 2 p.m. today there are 20 long-term care facilities in Iowa with COVID-19 outbreaks, the same as yesterday. There is one long-term care facility outbreak in Dubuque County at Dubuque Specialty Care, which has 51 positive cases and 38 recovered cases (the same as yesterday). Statewide, IDPH is reporting 548 positive cases at long-term care facilities (99 fewer than reported yesterday), 416 recovered (87 fewer than reported yesterday), and 380 deaths (15 more than reported yesterday). The number of cases and recovered include both residents and staff.
